If you are thinking about making a career change and seeking entry into the field of teaching, the Iowa Teacher Intern Certificate program is the right choice. In addition to coursework, candidates will take part in field experiences and a year-long internship that will prepare them to teach in the secondary (grades 7-12) content areas of math, science, English, and social studies. After successful completion of the certificate program, candidates will be recommended to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners to receive an Iowa Initial Teacher License. The Iowa Teacher Intern Certificate program is an accelerated, online graduate certificate program geared toward career changers who hold a bachelor’s degree and want to teach in secondary education. In lieu of student teaching, candidates will fulfill this requirement as a classroom teacher with a school district.
