Effectiveness of Online Doctoral Nursing Programs

A peer review of journal of the National League of Nurses recently examined the latest strategies for boosting the credentials of nursing personnel. The journal, the Nursing Education Perspectives, discusses online doctoral programs and the promotion of standards of excellence in nursing education.

There is a well-documented shortage of PhD-prepared nurses as well as nurse educators. That shortage has led to the creation of numerous online doctoral-level programs that are available to those currently working in the nursing field. currently employed. As with all online programs, the key for nurses is that they may continue their employment while they earn their PHD.

Due to the immense shortage of nurses it is also imperative to the profession that nurses not take time from work for such studies. Should they do so, there simply would not be enough available personnel for hospitals.

While the advent of the online programs is critical, it is just as important that such programs deliver high quality programming. Among the findings released in the journal were that students deemed online doctoral study rigorous and challenging and that student interaction through email and online chat rooms during class assignments has developed close collaborative and supportive peer relationships.
