Career Education Corporation announced that American InterContinental University has met the requirements for continued accreditation by the the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The Commission had placed AIU on probation in December of 2005 with the requirement the school take specific corrective actions to regain full certification.
AIU had been working since early 2006 to meet the accrediting agency's concerns. A Special Committee from the Commission made several visits to AIU campuses this fall and authored their final report in October. That final document indicated that that all necessary corrective actions had been completed by AIU. The college was formally removed from probationary status at the Commission's annual meeting in early December.
The return to full accreditation status was met with great enthusiasm by school leadership. "We are gratified that the effort and hard work on the part of our leadership, our faculty, and our staff have been acknowledged by our accreditor," said Dr. George Miller, chief executive officer of American InterContinental University. "We look forward to continuing to provide our students with a quality education that meets or exceeds the high standards set by SACS."
