In a competition directly pitting students from the American International Houston campus against those from the Art Institute of Houston, AIU students trounced their local counterparts by taking seven out of the top ten prizes. In addition, AIU won every outstanding artwork award from first through fourth place.

The contest featured a total of 20 works of art with each school placing 10 of their best pieces in the competition. The criteria for assessment included numerous categories, assessing the products based on original, inspirational, imaginative, and conceptually sound work.

The comeptition was held at the Renaissance Hotel, Greenway Plaza. In addition to the highlighted competition, the event sought to raise funds for Houston's GLBT Community Center and the Darla School of Mentally Retarded Adults.

A panel of industry professionals judged the 20 entries to determine the best student work. Many of the pieces were then sold at a subsequent private auction that was held in conjunction with the contest.
