A red-hot real estate market has led DeVry Inc. to consider selling its 20-acre campus in the West Hills area of San Fernando Valley, California.
However, even if DeVry University were to sell, the school may actually stay as a tenant in the 106,000-square-foot building it built six years ago. The changing needs of the school's student population along with the interest of developers has led to the possibility of the sale.
With many more students taking at least a portion of their course work
online and increases difficulty for students to get to the West Hills campus, the school is thinking of utilizing less space at that location but to create other options in different locations in San Fernando Valley or Southern California.
With current office vacancy in the San Fernando Valley at 10%, a multi-year low, as well as skyrocketing home prices, developers are seeking opportunities to build in the area. The push from a developer has led
Devry to consider selling the campus that is now larger than the school needs.
The developer reportedly the catalyst for the sales consideration has asked to remain anonymous at this time.
