In mid-January, the Career Education Corporation announced receipt of a formal action letter from the Commission on Colleges in regards to American InterContinental University's (AIU) accreditation issues.
AIC had previously been notified that it would be placed on a one-year probation beginning in December, 2005. The University will then have the opportunity to respond to all recommendations prior to a special committee visit in December, 2006.
Dr. George Miller, chief executive officer of American InterContinental University, indicated that the school had already put together a comprehensive action plan in response to the concerns specified. The school will work closely with the COC to ensure that the school addresses all of the required issues over the next year.
In essence, to solve the accreditation concerns, the University must document continuous improvement over the next nine months of 2006. The visiting committee will then be charged with verifying that the information shared in a subsequent report from AIC indicates that the school truly addressed the specified concerns.
AIU Online offers a variety of degrees in a number of technology and business related fields.
